Wesley Aunties & Uncles is a long term mentoring program based on the concept of an extended family network. Volunteering as an aunt or uncle is rich and rewarding work. It requires mentors to open their heart and home to a child in need for one day or weekend a month in a spirit of acceptance, friendship and understanding for both the child and their parent/carers. We have just started our mentoring service in the Grafton area and urgently seek the support of local individuals who can help make a difference in the life of local children in Out of home care.
Our mentors come from all walks of life, and anyone over the age of 21 with a friendly, caring nature and genuine liking for children can apply to become a volunteer mentor with Wesley Aunties & Uncles. As a child-focused organisation, the needs and safety of children underpin the entire mentoring program. Mentors need to be willing to undergo full child protection screening checks and assessment for suitability. It is essential that volunteer mentors are willing to make this commitment for a minimum of 12 months. Many of the children referred to the program have had lots of disappointment and rejection in their life and need to know they are accepted
