Clarence Valley Amateur Radio Group

Amateur Radio (Ham), is a hobby that you can do from your home, your car, or go out into the field, or participate in group activities.

You can spend as little or as much as you like on your equipment. A good handheld radio can be purchased for less than $50. Our group consists of friendly like minded people from all walks of life. We encourage new members and assist in training and conducting exams. It is relatively easy to obtain an Amateur Radio license, no previous technical knowledge is required.

Amateur Radio is a fabulous hobby. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space, all without the Internet or mobile phones. It's fun, social, educational, and can be a lifeline during times of need. With Amateur radio you can talk as much as you like or just be a listener. You can communicate without talking by using computers to control your transmitter on modes like SSTV and PSK31 for example. In Amateur Radio you can also become as technically involved as you like, from not at all to highly advanced, it does not matter and people are accepted equally. Amateur Radio dovetails well with computing and can provide a pathway for careers in communications. The aim of our group is to promote the hobby of Amateur Radio.

For information about the group or if you're interested in getting into amateur radio, please contact us via email or feel free to come to our monthly social luncheon.  This is usually held at Braunstone Hall, Braunstone Road, Braunstone, NSW. - monthly meetings commence at 11:30pm on the second Saturday of each month. Best to contact someone on the repeater or by email or Facebook Messenger prior to going in case of a last-minute change.

We operate a CLOSED Facebook group site for people resident in the Clarence Valley and surrounding districts that are interested in Amateur Radio.  To join this group please send a Facebook request and include your town and reason for wanting to join.
